รัฐบาลสหรัฐฯ เพิ่งลงนามในข้อตกลงทางการค้าครั้งสำคัญกับไต้หวัน (จีน) ภายใต้ข้อตกลงนี้ บริษัทเทคโนโลยีและเซมิคอนดักเตอร์ของไต้หวันจะลงทุนโดยตรงในอุตสาหกรรมเซมิคอนดักเตอร์ของสหรัฐฯ เป็นจำนวน 250 พันล้านดอลลาร์ การลงทุนนี้มีเป้าหมายเพื่อเพิ่มการผลิตชิปภายในประเทศและลดการพึ่งพาห่วงโซ่อุปทานจากต่างประเทศ ซึ่งถือเป็นความเสี่ยง ทางเศรษฐกิจ และความมั่นคงของชาติ

KBR Research Psychologist on Space Missions Named to Forbes “30 Under 30”


When humankind next steps on the moon, and eventually on Mars, KBR’s experts will have played a big part in making it happen. One of those experts is Morgan Stosic, a research scientist and psychologist, who was recently recognized as one of Forbes magazine’s “30 Under 30.”

Morgan grew up in Reno, Nevada, and had always thought about a career in medicine, specifically studying the brain and how the mind works. At first, she’d considered clinical psychology, but after joining a research lab while completing her undergraduate degree at Oregon State University, she quickly realized that performing behavioral research and interacting with human subjects was her passion.

“I was fascinated by the brain and learning more about the ways we interact together,” Morgan said. “I was drawn to studying what people do and why. We’re interesting and unpredictable. I found the work fun and challenging. Then while completing grad school and my Ph.D., I began working with people in the lab, videoing them having social interactions or solving problems, and I would do a lot of behavioral coding.”

Morgan and research assistants would monitor things like facial expressions, vocal quality and other micro-interactions to understand the dynamics of the subjects and also to see if interactions could be predicted. It was while earning her Ph.D. that she happened upon a NASA grant to work with Dr. Erin Flynn-Evans, currently director of the Fatigue Countermeasures Laboratory at NASA’s Ames Research Center. Together, they worked to monitor and better understand behavioral expressions of fatigue.

“I didn’t have my eye on a spaceflight career,” she said. “But when I graduated and the job opened up, I thought it would be a good fit.”

One of the key factors of human spaceflight is how the rigors of training and then being in close proximity to others in confined spaces can psychologically affect astronauts. As a lead scientist supporting NASA’s Johnson Space Center’s Behavioral Health and Performance Laboratory, Morgan leverages behavioral science to advance how human performance in space is monitored and optimized. This includes analyzing astronauts’ nonverbal cues, facial expressions, vocal cues and body movements to detect real-time indicators of fatigue, cognition and cohesion with team members. Her primary focus in extravehicular activity research, which is being applied to developing the next-generation spacesuits that will be worn by astronauts exploring the moon.

“You might not think psychology has anything to do with spacesuits, but it does,” she said. “Currently, we’re researching the right internal pressure for the suits. We’re examining how changes to the pressure may impact changes to cognitive functioning, memory and attention spans while on extravehicular activities.”

That work will be instrumental in helping astronauts endure the long journey to Mars. Morgan and her teammates are studying the psychological capability to endure the long voyage while isolated with the same crew, and with significant communication delays — 23 minutes to send a signal, 23 minutes to return a transmission. 

“I’m excited about the work we’re doing to think about how we bridge those communication dynamics with that delay,” Morgan said. “It’s not normal for humans to communicate with that kind of delay. So we’re exploring how we can bridge that gap and make communication effective and still maintain closeness with friends and family back on Earth.”

Morgan’s contributions to spaceflight would be impressive for anyone. The fact that she’s just 28 years old makes her work seem even more remarkable. Forbes magazine agreed by recognizing Morgan on their 2025 “30 Under 30” list. Morgan was nominated by her mentor, Dr. Mollie Ruben, with whom she studied at the University of Maine.

“I was surprised and excited, but more than anything this honor reflects the collaborative work being done across the broader human spaceflight research community,” Morgan said.

Morgan Stosic has already accomplished much in her career. When asked about what she’s looking forward to achieving in her career, she had this to say:

“The questions we get to answer are fascinating and important. Sometimes in academia, I think we have a tendency to ask ourselves, ‘Is this actually changing anything or bettering humanity or moving us toward a goal?’ Research doesn’t always have to do those things, but it’s nice to know, while learning and better understanding these human dynamics, that this work could inform not only space exploration for future generations, but also other science aspects of psychology.”

Yes, It's True — Fallout Is Coming to Call of Duty: Black Ops 7


Yes, it's true — Microsoft is bringing two of its hottest gaming franchises together for a Fallout Season 2 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 crossover event.

If you're wondering how, exactly, that may work, the official Call of Duty X/Twitter account has shared a brief video teaser which shows silhouettes of Fallout TV series characters The Ghoul, Lucy, and Maximus in the smoke of war, with bullets whizzing by in the background.

"Okie dokie — stay focused, stay alive," the text on the post reads. "[Fallout TV show] is coming to Call of Duty in Season 01 Reloaded."

The implication here certainly seems to be that Call of Duty fans will see skins of those characters, which may or may not be tied to a premium event pass. Without further details — let alone a release date — it's hard to say for sure, though. We'll keep you posted, as always.

It's an opportune time to unite these two blockbuster games, of course. Battlefield 6 now looks "extremely likely" to beat Black Ops 7 to be crowned 2025's best-selling game, with the latter seemingly not only struggling against Battlefield's sales, but also that of its predecessor, Black Ops 6.

Fallout, however, has never been more popular, and its highly anticipated second season premiered on Amazon Prime yesterday (December 17). The new Fallout season picks up in the aftermath of Season 1’s finale and travels through the wasteland of the Mojave to the post-apocalyptic city of New Vegas. Fans of Obsidian's much-loved video game will be interested to hear that Season 2 takes a "fog of war" approach (which sure does match the video we see above) to how it juggles Fallout: New Vegas' various endings.

We gave the opening episode of Season 2 a Good 7/10 but if you've yet to watch the first season, don't forget that Bethesda and Xbox recently teamed up with Amazon and Samsung so fans watching via Samsung TV Plus can stream Fallout Season 1 for free. This means Season 1 is available subscription-free on Samsung TV Plus from now through to December 25. Samsung TV Plus is a free, ad-supported streaming service available on Samsung TV, Galaxy, Smart Monitor, and Family Hubs devices.

The team behind Amazon's hit show are gearing up to film Season 3 "next summer," with the hope that there won't be a huge gap between the end of Season 2 and what's next. As for the games? Fallout 5 will indeed take into account the canon events of the TV series, Bethesda development chief Todd Howard has confirmed.

انفجار «ذخيرة صوتية» خارج الطوق الأمني في دمشق


العراق يُشيد بجهود التعاون الإقليمي والدولي في مجال مكافحة المخدرات

انطلقت في العاصمة العراقية بغداد، الأحد، أعمال المؤتمر الثالث لمكافحة المخدرات، بمشاركة 12 دولة عربية وإقليمية ومكتب الأمم المتحدة، إلى جانب الأمين العام لمجلس وزراء الداخلية العرب محمد بن علي كومان.

وأشاد رئيس الوزراء محمد شياع السوداني خلال كلمته في المؤتمر، الذي يستمر يومين، بجهود التعاون الدولي التي أسفرت عن ضبط كميات كبيرة من المواد المخدرة.

وقال السوداني إن حكومته «عملت على تعزيز ورفع مستوى التعاون والتنسيق وتبادل المعلومات والخبرات، وتوقيع مذكرات التفاهم مع مختلف الدول؛ حيث جرى فتح 33 نقطة اتصال مشتركة مع عدد من الدول والمنظمات، وتوقيع 11 مذكرة تفاهم، كما بلغ مجموع الخطابات المرسلة 345 مخاطبة، وأكثر من 1299 معلومة متبادلة مع دول الجوار».

وشدد على ضرورة «مواجهة مخاطر المخدرات التي تُهدد المجتمعات والدول وتسبب الأزمات»، وكذلك على أهمية «التنسيق المشترك والعمل للحد من مخاطر المخدرات، وصولاً إلى تصفيرها، من خلال تطوير وسائل المواجهة في الحرب المستمرة ضد العصابات الإجرامية التي تتاجر وتورط أبناء مجتمعنا بهذا الوباء».

وأشار إلى أن حكومته عملت وفق «الاستراتيجية الوطنية لمكافحة المخدرات للسنوات (2023-2025)، وتعديل قانون مكافحة المخدرات لسنة 2017»، مضيفاً: «كما اتخذنا حزمة إجراءات وقرارات وتوجيهات لمكافحة المخدرات، فضلاً عن تشييد مصحات تأهيل للمدمنين في كل المحافظات، وأنشأنا 15 مصحة قسرية في بغداد والمحافظات لمعالجة المدمنين والمتعاطين، وهي تجارب رائدة على المستويين المحلي والدولي».

وعدّ السوداني أن خطر المخدرات والمؤثرات العقلية «لا يقل عن خطر الجماعات الإرهابية».

مساعي اجتثاث الآفة

وعانى العراق خلال السنوات الأخيرة جراء تفشي ظاهرة المخدرات، بعد أن كان قبل نحو عقدين دولة شبه خالية من هذه الآفة.

وسعياً للتصدي لهذه الظاهرة، يعمل العراق على تعزيز التعاون والتنسيق الإقليمي، وإشراك المجتمع الدولي في حربه على هذه التجارة العابرة للحدود، ويحرص على تبادل المعلومات ومراقبة الحدود ورصد شبكات التهريب.

وأعلنت وزارة الداخلية في نوفمبر (تشرين الثاني) الماضي عن تفكيك 1200 شبكة محلية ودولية للاتجار بالمخدرات، وضبط أكثر من 14 طناً من المواد المخدرة خلال السنوات الثلاث الماضية.

وغالباً ما كانت الحدود الشرقية مع إيران كبرى مناطق تهريب المخدرات بأنواعها إلى البلاد، إلى جانب الحدود الغربية مع سوريا؛ لكن عمليات التهريب تراجعت خلال السنة الأخيرة وبعد الإطاحة بنظام بشار الأسد طبقاً لبعض التصريحات الرسمية.

وخلال المؤتمر، أكَّد الأمين العام لمجلس وزراء الداخلية العرب، بن علي كومان، عزم العراق على التعاون لمكافحة المخدرات، مشيداً بالتعاون الدولي من جانب وزارة الداخلية العراقية في هذا الصدد.

وقال خلال كلمته في المؤتمر: «إن انعقاد المؤتمر بنسخته الثالثة بعد نجاح النسختين السابقتين يعكس إرادة راسخة لدى العراق لتعزيز التعاون بين دول المنطقة والعالم في مواجهة آفة المخدرات، التي تمثل تهديداً للأرواح والصحة والتنمية، وتنخر اقتصاديات الدول، بما يصاحبها من فساد للأموال، إضافة إلى ارتباطها بالفساد وتمويل التنظيمات الإرهابية والجريمة المنظمة».

وأضاف أن وزارة الداخلية العراقية أبدت اهتماماً كبيراً بالتصدي لهذه الظاهرة، من بينها تنظيم فعالية مشتركة مع مكتب الأمم المتحدة المعني بالمخدرات والجريمة، لمناقشة ديناميكيات تهريب المخدرات عبر العراق والشرق الأوسط.

ورأى كومان أن العراق «شكَّل نموذجاً في التعاون الميداني، العربي والدولي؛ حيث فازت مديرية شؤون المخدرات والمؤثرات العقلية بالمركز الأول في المسابقة السنوية للأمانة العامة حول أفضل تعاون عملياتي في مجال مكافحة المخدرات على المستويين العربي والدولي».

وذكر أن الدول العربية «تظهر التزاماً متزايداً بمكافحة هذه الآفة».

وأشار كومان إلى أن العام الحالي «شهد تقدماً مهمّاً في مجال مكافحة المخدرات؛ حيث تم إعداد صياغة جديدة للاستراتيجية العربية لمكافحة الاتجار غير المشروع بالمخدرات والمؤثرات العقلية».

العمل الجماعي

من جهته، شدّد وزير الداخلية العراقي عبد الأمير الشمري في كلمته خلال المؤتمر على أن «مواجهة المخدرات تتطلب عملاً جماعياً»، وقال إن مكافحتها «مسيرة مشتركة تتجاوز الحدود».

وأضاف: «شبكات المخدرات تتطور بسرعة، وتستفيد من التطور التكنولوجي، والتجمع الدوري ضروري لمكافحتها».

وأكد أن مواجهة المخدرات تتطلب تنسيقاً دولياً، وضبط الحدود وتطوير التشريعات، وقال إن العراق «نجح في بناء منظومة متطورة في مجال مكافحة المخدرات».

وقال الشمري إن نتائج المؤتمرين السابقين لمكافحة الإرهاب «نجحت في وضع الأساس المتين لنموذج جديد في التعاون الأمني لمكافحة المخدرات، وهو نموذج يقوم على الشفافية والمسؤولية المشتركة والرؤية الموحدة لمصالح شعوبنا».

وأضاف أن التجارب الأمنية في المنطقة والعالم أثبتت أن مواجهة آفة المخدرات «ليست مهمة ظرفية، ولا نتيجة حملة مؤقتة، بل هي معركة مستمرة تتطلب متابعة دقيقة، وتقييماً دورياً».

لأول مرة.. بلجيكا تدرج المغرب ضمن قائمة الدول الآمنة


وبحسب وزيرة اللجوء والهجرة، آنلين فان بوسويت، فإن المغرب يدرج لأول مرة في هذه القائمة، رغم الرأي السلبي الصادر عن المفوضية العامة لشؤون اللاجئين وعديمي الجنسية (CGRA).

وقالت: « توجد مؤشرات قوية توحي بأن المغرب يمكن اعتباره بلداً آمناً، لأن وضعية حقوق الإنسان فيه تحسّنت بشكل كبير خلال السنوات الأخيرة ».

وأضافت أن مواطني الدول المدرجة على قائمة البلدان الأصلية الآمنة يُفترض أنهم غير محتاجين إلى حماية دولية.
